Biography

Dr Arthur was conferred a Fellowship in General Surgery by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2018, going on to work as a consultant in general surgery at the Toowoomba Hospital in 2019. In the subsequent two years, he completed the colorectal surgery training program administered by the Australia and New Zealand Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery, with clinical appointments at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne and Gold Coast University Hospital. He is a specialist in colorectal surgery and an active member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Arthur has significantly contributed to medical advocacy, fulfilling roles such as National Trainee Representative for the Board in General Surgery, Councillor for the AMA Queensland Council, Chair of the AMA Queensland Council of Doctors in Training, Committee Member for the State Management Committee of ASMOFQ, and General Surgery Representative to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainees Association. He received the AMAQ President’s Award in 2017.

Dr Arthur has a keen interest in research and has served as Co-ordinating Principal Investigator and Associate Investigator on various national and international studies. He is the founding chair of the Queensland Surgical Trainee (QUEST) Collaboration and has held academic appointments with Griffith University and the University of Queensland. He is currently an Adjunct Professor with the University of Southern Queensland. Dr. Arthur was the inaugural convenor of the AMA Junior Doctor Conference and a convenor for the RACS Annual Scientific Congress. He is a reviewer for the ANZ Journal of Surgery and holds the position of Hospital Supervisor at Toowoomba Hospital for the General Surgical Education and Training program for surgical trainees. He is currently the Deputy Chair of the Queensland Training Committee for the Board in General Surgery.

Dr Arthur provides high-quality colorectal and general surgical services, encompassing areas such as colon and rectal cancer, benign conditions of the colon including diverticulitis, faecal incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, inflammatory bowel disease, abdominal wall hernias, and general surgical emergencies.
